How Our Surgical Care Works: One Team, Start to Finish
Surgical care at Elite Rapid Care follows a simple, continuous path.
First, Dr. Obaid-Schmid evaluates you at our Henderson clinic, where on-site lab work and imaging help confirm your diagnosis quickly, often in a single visit.
From there, we schedule your procedure at the setting that fits your condition.
Skin lesion removals are done right at Elite Rapid Care. Hernia repair and gallbladder removal are scheduled in advance at our partner facility, West Henderson Hospital, using open, laparoscopic, or robotic-assisted surgery, whichever fits your case.

Our Surgical Specialties
Dr. Obaid-Schmid performs your procedure across all three specialties. Not sure which one fits your symptoms? That's what a consultation is for.
Hernia Repair
A hernia occurs when tissue pushes through a weak spot in your abdominal wall, and it won’t repair itself. We treat inguinal, umbilical, ventral, hiatal, and other hernias using the approach that fits your anatomy and activity level.

If gallstones or gallbladder disease are causing pain, nausea, or digestive trouble after meals, gallbladder removal (cholecystectomy) may bring lasting relief. Most cholecystectomies are performed laparoscopically, which typically means smaller incisions and a faster return to your routine than open surgery.

When to Seek Emergency Care Instead
Everything above is scheduled, elective surgical care. Some symptoms need care right away.
Seek emergency care or call 911 immediately if you experience:
- Sudden, severe, or worsening abdominal pain, especially with fever, vomiting, or a rigid abdomen
- Pain that starts near the belly button and moves to the lower right side, which can signal appendicitis
- A hernia that suddenly becomes painful, hard, or discolored and won’t go back in
- Signs of a bowel obstruction, such as severe cramping with no gas or stool
- Jaundice (yellow skin or eyes) or fever with abdominal pain
- Chest pain or pressure, trouble breathing, vomit with blood, or black stools
Go to the nearest emergency room or call 911. Do not wait for a scheduled surgical consultation.

Frequently Asked Questions About Surgical Care
If your question is not here, call us. You do not need to have the right words before reaching out.
What surgical conditions does Elite Rapid Care treat?
We treat a range of general surgical conditions, grouped into three main categories: hernias, gallbladder disease requiring cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal), and benign (non-cancerous) skin lesions like lipomas, cysts, moles, and skin tags. Hernias come in several types, including inguinal, umbilical, ventral, incisional, hiatal, femoral, epigastric, and sports hernias, depending on where the tissue pushes through. Not sure whether your condition fits? A consultation will tell you.
Is Elite Rapid Care a surgery center, or will I be referred elsewhere?
We’re your starting point and your ongoing care team, not a referral service. Dr. Obaid-Schmid evaluates you at our Henderson clinic, performs your procedure at the right setting, and sees you for follow-up afterward. You won’t be handed off to a surgeon you’ve never met.
Where is my procedure actually performed?
It depends on the procedure. Skin lesion removals are done right at our Henderson clinic. Hernia repair and gallbladder removal are scheduled in advance at our partner facility, West Henderson Hospital, where Dr. Obaid-Schmid performs the surgery.
Who performs my surgery?
Dr. Amal Obaid-Schmid, MD performs your hernia repair, gallbladder surgery, or skin lesion removal. She trained at UCLA, USC, and UC Irvine and has more than 20 years of experience in general surgery and surgical critical care. You meet her at your consultation, and she treats you.
Do I need a referral to be evaluated?
No. You don’t need a referral from another doctor to schedule a surgical consultation with our team. If a provider has already diagnosed you with a hernia, gallbladder disease, or a skin lesion, bring any records or imaging you have, but a referral isn’t required to get started.
What happens at my first surgical consultation?
At your first visit, Dr. Obaid-Schmid reviews your symptoms and medical history, examines you, and goes over any prior imaging or lab work. If needed, additional on-site testing can often be done the same day. You can walk in to our main clinic for an initial evaluation of a suspected hernia, and surgical consultations and hospital repairs are scheduled separately. You leave knowing your diagnosis, your options, and what comes next.
Is this for scheduled/elective care, or should I go to the ER?
This page covers scheduled, elective surgical care for hernias, gallbladder disease, and skin lesions. If you have sudden or severe symptoms, such as intense abdominal pain, a fever, or a hernia that suddenly won’t go back in, go to the emergency room or call 911 instead of scheduling a consultation.
How do I know if my symptoms are an emergency?
Go to the emergency room if you have sudden or severe abdominal pain, pain that shifts to your lower right side, a rigid or swollen abdomen, persistent vomiting, fever with worsening pain, or a hernia that becomes hard, discolored, or painful and won’t go back in. When in doubt, go.
Will my insurance cover my procedure?
Coverage depends on your plan, your diagnosis, and where your procedure is performed. We accept the same insurance plans and self-pay options as our main clinic, and our team verifies your benefits and explains expected costs before you schedule.
How soon can I be seen for a consultation?
We work to schedule your surgical consultation as quickly as possible. Call us at (725) 291-5900 or book online to see Dr. Obaid-Schmid’s next available appointment.
